Meet Our Board
Our Board and volunteers are a community of women from different walks of life coming together for one common purpose: to help make a positive change in the lives of young ladies. Through our group mentoring, community outreach and volunteerism, our goal is to empower young girls to dream, believe, and excel.

Darrylyn Jackson, Secretary
Is a Detroit native and Michigan State Graduate. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and currently holds the position as Supervisor for the Welfare funding Unit with the Department of Health and Human Service with the State of Michigan. She is the mother of one son and is an advocate for empowering youth. She has served on a number of boards in the city of Detroit and Metropolitan area.

Tiea Young, Treasurer
Tiea is a wife and mother she serves on several community ventures and is diligent about her time with Girlz N Tune. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Minor in Accounting. Tiea is thrilled to be a Board member with Girlz N Tune because of her desire to give back and the opportunity to witness the change in the lives of the participants through the power of mentor-ship.

Tawana Rogers, Community Outreach
Tawana is the mother of two and spends a lot of her down time volunteering with inner city organizations. She wants to instill in the youth to know their value and self worth. Her creativity and technical background serves as a great asset to the Girlz N Tune’s mission.

Juanita Mostafa, Community Outreach
Juanita is a graduate of Southern Illinois University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Health, she is the mother of five children. She has traveled abroad to teach English as a second language and is knowledgeable with culture awareness. Juanita is an advocate for mentoring she thrives on telling youth to be their authentic self and succeed.

Alise Brengettcy, Community Relations Liaison/Health & Wellness Coordinator
Alise is an esteemed graduate from Howard University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in African American Studies and a Business Minor. She works to ensure that health and wellness activities are incorporated in Girlz N Tune events and programs. From healthy food choices to meditation moments, Alise works to make sure that healthy behaviors are a part of the organization’s practices.

Shalawn Backstrom, Vice President
Shalawn is from Detroit and a wife and mother of one son. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Associate Degree in Nursing. “I joined Girlz N Tune because I believe that mentor-ship is a positive way to build relationships with teens which will help influence them to make good decisions.”
Shalawn brings her skills of working with youth as well as thorough knowledge of nutrition and health.
